The key to protecting yourself is getting educated. You are doing that right now and another thing you can do is go down to your neighborhood book store and see what options they have. If you do not want to spend a lot of money you can search online for used books and there are any sites that cater to that, from online auction sites like Ebay to online resellers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
If you would rather go on the real cheap, there is always your public library. The issue you may have there is that they do not usually carry multiples of books. The selection can be rather scant as well. Do you best and get those toxins out of your home...
